The Dallas Cowboys cut Adrian Hamilton on Friday.
Hamilton, who went undrafted out of Prairie View A&M, exhibited good ability in rushing the quarterback. But the Cowboys parted ways with Hamilton due to his inability to contribute on special teams.
Hamilton was impressive enough in getting to the quarterback, however, that he could end up quickly on another team's roster.
The Patriots surprisingly cut Deion Branch and Brian Hoyer on Friday, according to sources.
Dan Koppen will also be let go.
Branch, 33, spent parts of six seasons with the Patriots, registering 312 receptions for 4,152 yards and 24 touchdowns. He re-signed in March after catching 51 passes for 702 yards and five touchdowns last season.
David Garrard isn't expected to survive cuts on Friday as the Miami Dolphins and the rest of the NFL get their rosters to the league maximum.
Garrard has not been able to jog or put any real pressure on his knee since having surgery three weeks ago.
Garrard was at the top of Miami's depth chart before the injury. First-round pick Ryan Tannehill is now the team's starter.
The Miami Dolphins are working out Donte Stallworth, amongst a group of other receivers.
Davone Bess, Brian Hartline and Legedu Naanee are the only receivers likely to make Miami's roster.
The Dolphins are also targeting a receiver via trade such as James Jones from the Green Bay Packers.
The New York Jets have claimed punter Spencer Lanning on waivers after he was let go by the Cleveland Browns.
The Chicago Bears also submitted a claim on Lanning.
The Jets want T.J. Conley to have competition for their punting job.
Mike Wallace reported to the Steelers on Tuesday, but he has not signed his restricted free-agent tender and will not practice until next week.
Pittsburgh's final preseason game is Thursday against Carolina. They open the season on Sept. 9 against Denver.
Wallace did not receive any offers from other teams as a restricted free agent this spring. Any team signing him to an offer sheet would have had to provide compensation to the Steelers.
The Redskins have released Chris Cooley.
Cooley would like to continue his career, but admitted it would be difficult playing for a new team.
“I’ll take some time and make sure what I do in the future is exactly what I want to do,” Cooley said.
Fred Davis will start for the Redskins at tight end and the team is giving Cooley an opportunity to start elsewhere.
“I think he’s earned that right,” Mike Shanahan said.
Shanahan said the Redskins could re-sign Cooley if he is unable to find a job starting elsewhere.
Billy Cundiff will sign with the Redskins one day after being cut by the Ravens.
Washington released Neil Rackers on Monday, seemingly preferring Graham Gano, but will instead go with Cundiff.
The Redskins have traded cornerback Kevin Barnes to the Lions.
Washington had informed Barnes earlier in the day that he would be released, but the team later found a trade for him.
Barnes was a third round pick in 2009 and was mainly a nickelback last season.
